Apple confirms 3G VoIP apps on iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch; Skype is waiting

Apple Inc. proved last night that it is now allowing iPhone, iPad and iPod touch developers to build apps that can make Internet calls over a 3G cellular network.

"We revised our Program License Agreement in conjunction with our revised Software Development Kit for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad Apps," wrote an Apple spokesperson. "Included in this update is the ability for developers to make VoIP apps that use cellular networks."

VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol -- basically, Web-based telephony.As we reported last night, several VoiP apps have been accepted for use on the iPhone, including iCall and Fring.

Skype, one of the most admired VoIP applications, said it had a 3G iPhone app ready to go, but wanted to get a couple of service information squared away.

Skype is waiting for Apple to explain when the new SDK terms of service for iPhone OS 3.2 SDK beta, which were published yesterday, will go into effect for current iPhone users who are still bound under the terms of iPhone OS 3.12 SDK, according to Skype spokesman Chaim Haas.

Mobile phone side of VoIP 'growing'

The mobile phones surface of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is inauguration to "blossom", according to a research expert.He is (Diane Myers) a directing analyst for Internet Protocol Multimedia Services and VoIP at Infonetics make inquiries, He said that the VoIP phone market has "developed" and become "an extremely reliable service in most deployments, particularly in fixed-line communications".

Miss Myers' has comments come as roaming rates for the UK and US were condensed after a product launch by VoIP service provider Truphone.

A new SIM will be given to voip customers, which offers local rates for any country where Truphone is in business.

VoIP users no longer need to use swap around SIM cards or dial back systems with the Truphone Local Anywhere service, available in both the UK and US.

Miss Myers said the voip service was "accurately the type of innovation most people expect out of VoIP service providers."

VoIP company predicts a happy New Year

A US provider of VoIP solutions is predicting a very happy New Year for the sector, forecasting widespread development on an international scale for VoIP hardware in 2010.

According to Ari Rabban, chief executive officer for Phone.com, the VoIP solutions sector has shown itself to be largely recession-proof, rising from the shadows of the tough global economic conditions as a top choice for small businesses looking to cut costs.

Mr Rabban told TMCnet: "The mobile VoIP market will continue to gain more and more traction and we anticipate to see some major announcements coming out during 2010, but perhaps more important than announcements, actual usage."

The website reports that the communications technology sector, which includes companies offering VoIP solutions, has previously seen widespread growth throughout 2009, adding that Phones.com itself reported a three-fold rise in sales over the course of the year.

A recent survey by internet service provider O2 ended that mobile broadband technology has benefitted 44 per cent of UK businesses in recent months.
