An investigation group dispatched from Metropolitan Police Crime Division raided a well-equipped underground call centre in Ravibhawan and arrested a racketeer for his involvement in flouting telecommunication laws recently.

SSP Rana Bahadur Chand, in-charge, MPCD, revealed that the three some had been using the SIM cards bearing numbers — 9807020501, 9803811605 and 9841467386 — registered in the name of Raju, who goes by his single name. The seized properties are said to be valued over Rs 10 million. Anwar has been handed over to the Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka.

What is VOIP Gateway?

Call by-passers utilize VoIP GSM Gateway to divert international rings from the official gateway. The call is then transmitted to the telecom subscribers through a GSM SIM card. The ISD at that time displays a personal caller ID on the receiver’s gadget. VoIP has always been a problem for telecom service providers in the country. As stated by the Telecommunications Act, 2053, any person convicted of posing threat to telecommunications systems and service can face a fine equal to the principal amount of loss caused or sentence up to 5 years in prison or both.

VoIP utilizes broadband Internet for routing phone calls, unlike conventional switching and fibre-optic alternatives.

The majority VoIP providers continue to improve their 911 services. However, consumers who are considering Internet telephone service are strongly urged to check the status of 911 services with potential provider - as well as local police and fire departments in communities in which they plan to make Internet phone calls - and understand their limitations before entering into a contract.

Lose Your Power, Lose Your Service - Unless you have several type of backup power for your high-speed modem, you will lose all Internet phone service if you lose power.

Keeping Your present Phone Number - Customers may or may not be able to stay their current numbers when switching from standard telephone service to VoIP. It is important to verify this with a potential broadband phone provider when thinking about signing up.

Directory Service – If you switch from traditional telephone service to Internet phone service, your new number will likely not be in the telephone directory or available from directory assistance. Also, you may no longer be able to receive free phone directories from the landline service provider.

Calling 900 Numbers - VoIP clients are generally not able to dial 900 or 10-10 numbers, or receive collect calls.

O2: Yes, we’re acquiring Jajah Internet phone company

O2, the mobile phone separation of Spanish telecommunication company Telefónica, confirmed today that it’s acquiring Israel-based Internet voip phone company Jajah for 145 million euros (that’s $207 million).

The move reflects the rising interest in VoIP technology on the part of the large telecom and tech companies. In November, Israeli financial news site and TechCrunch. TheMarker reported that O2 was requesting for Jajah against Microsoft and Cisco, and it reported this weekend that O2 had won the bidding war. (At the same time, an O2 press representative told us the reports were “entirely speculation.”)

Telefónica is not the only telecom company interested in VoIP startups. Last year, BT acquired Ribbit, which dubbed itself “Silicon Valley’s first voip phone company.”
Jajah says it has approximately 15 million subscribers. It has launched at DEMO, the technology conference co-produced by VentureBeat, and raised $35 million from Sequoia Capital, Deutsche Telekom, Intel Capital, and others.

Types of VoIP phones

Low charge for long distance calls and worldwide calls offered by VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) attract extra and more users. VoIP phone systems are usually included as an option to a traditional PSTN (public switched telephone network). VoIP phone systems are also called SIP phone systems (SIP stands for Session Initiation Protocol) and consist of VoIP server and VoIP phones.

Usually, a USB VoIP phone is a microphone and a speaker and it perform the same function as the hardware of your computer does. But USB VoIP phones behave like normal phones do that makes them suitable in use and therefore USB VoIP phones are more preferable for the user.

Hardware VoIP Phones (SIP Phones) :
Hardware VoIP phones look like normal telephones but have already included VoIP software so that you can make and receive calls via IP. Hardware VoIP phones share a computer network instead of a customary PSTN thereby you do not need an extra PSTN point for your VoIP phone.

Analog Phones with a VoIP adapter :
If you do not want to spend money on hardware based VoIP phone you can use your analog phone with an ATA adapter (Analog Telephony Adapter). VoIP adapters are plugged into the Ethernet network and linked to the analog phone to change the data. VoIP adapters may be easily added to your network and therefore you will have your analog phone working as a VoIP phone. In case you choose to switch to ordinary PSTN system you can restore the ATA adapter.

Using VoIP softphones is the cheapest way to use VoIP services as you can get VoIP software for free but VoIP phones based on hardware may offer extra convenience as you do not need to use your computer.

How VoIP Works

VoIP convert the voice signal from your telephone into a digital signal that can travel over the Internet. If you are calling a usual telephone number, the signal is then changed back at the other end. Depending on the type of VoIP service, you can make a VoIP call from a computer, a particular VoIP phone, or a usual phone with or without an adapter.

In addition, new wireless "hot spots" in public location such as airports, parks, and cafes allow you to attach to the Internet, and may enable you to use VoIP service wirelessly. If your VoIP service supplier assigns you a regular telephone number, then you can receive calls from regular telephones that don’t need particular equipment, and most possible you'll be able to dial just as you forever have.

What is VoIP?

VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is a comparatively new technology that allows you to use your computer's network link as a Phone service.

VoIP technology is mounting in popularity. Calls using this technology are cheaper than those on the usual phone network, mainly for long distance and international numbers. As broadband internet access becomes extra widespread, VoIP is also becoming an ever more easy and suitable way to communicate.

You need a computer to use approximately all VoIP services. Some may require special software and equipment, such as microphones.

Some services may offer features such as meeting and video calls, but might not be able to offer some customary phone services.
